I
stand for the children, do you?
A letter to the Canadian Citizens
From Clinical Director, Kathy
Broady, LMSW-ACP
Hello Canada,
I am writing to gather public support for
the Canadian Motion to Parliament that is
designed to protect children from sexual predators
and to raise the legal age of giving sexual
consent with an adult from age 14 to at least
16.
The following motion was presented on April
23, 2002 by Larry Spencer, MP:
That
the Government immediately introduce legislation
to protect children from sexual predators
including measures that raise the legal
age of consent to at least sixteen, and
measures that prohibit the creation or use
of sexually explicit materials exploiting
children or materials that appear to depict
or describe children engaged in sexual activity.
However, this motion was not passed, and instead
was postponed for further discussion with
the individual provinces. The Parliament did,
however, pass a motion to protect forest critters
on that day. I think it is totally deplorable
that people do not hesitate to protect animals,
but they aren't sure about doing anything
quickly to protect children.
Children
that are severely sexually abused face years
and years of emotional, medical, spiritual,
physical, and financial devastation. Without
safety, their lives are devastated nearly
beyond repair. If you are unsure of the negative
effects of sexual abuse, please read the document
posted at www.abuseconsultants.com. This document
was prepared for, mentioned at, and presented
to the Canadian Parliament on April 23, 2002.
If
you are concerned about these issues, please
sign your name below and forward this letter
to as many fellow Canadians that you know.
When the list reaches 100 or more signatures,
please forward it to info@abuseconsultants.com,
or forward it directly to Larry Spencer at
spencl8@parl.gc.ca. Mr. Spencer will continue
to voice your concerns for the safety of your
children. As a clinical social worker, I will
continue to work for safety of children.
The
only way to protect our children is for parents
and members of society to say loudly that
we believe our children deserve to be protected
and that we are willing to take an active
stand to demand their safety. Please, do not
turn a deaf ear to this issue. Complacency
and apathy allow more children to be abused.
The lifelong devastation of severe childhood
sexual abuse must be stopped. Please send
this to or tell everyone that you know.
On
behalf of the children, I thank you for your
immediate attention to this matter.
The
signatures below represent a loud voice demanding
safety and protection of Canadian children
from violent sexual predators:
