Current Events: Petitions

Please look at the following petitions and steps available for political action. The intention is aimed at raising public awareness about the need for better protection of children and the prevention or treatment of childhood sexual abuse, commercial sexual exploitation, trauma disorders, ongoing assaults, etc.

Every child deserves safety first!

I Stand For the Children – This is a letter to Canadian citizens from our Clinical Director in response to the April 23, 2002 Motion to Parliament to protect children from sexual predators and raise the legal age of sexual consent.

There are many online petitions available for you to sign. We have linked with a few examples that represent a variety of pertinent issues:

Petition for the Ratification of Amendment VI – This petition is requesting equal rights, including better legal protection and legal counsel for all victims of abuse.

Internet Force Against Child Abuse - This petition speaks out against the atrocities of child abuse and stands for the dire need to encourage government officials and the justice system to pay closer attention to the damages caused by child abuse and to make stiffer penalties against perpetrators of child abuse.

The bipartisan Debbie Smith Act - Lifetime Television for Women is encouraging everyone to demand that Congress take action to get rapists off the streets through better investigation and prosecution.

Protect the Children: End the Abuse, Stop the Cover Up - This petition details the world wide abuse seen in the Catholic Church, and asks the UN to take action.
