look at the following petitions and steps
available for political action. The intention
is aimed at raising public awareness about
the need for better protection of children
and the prevention or treatment of childhood
sexual abuse, commercial sexual exploitation,
trauma disorders, ongoing assaults, etc.
Every
child deserves safety first!
I
Stand For the Children – This is
a letter to Canadian citizens from our Clinical
Director in response to the April 23, 2002
Motion to Parliament to protect children from
sexual predators and raise the legal age of
sexual consent.
There
are many online petitions available for you
to sign. We have linked with a few examples
that represent a variety of pertinent issues:
Petition
for the Ratification of Amendment VI –
This petition is requesting equal rights,
including better legal protection and legal
counsel for all victims of abuse.
Internet
Force Against Child Abuse - This petition
speaks out against the atrocities of child
abuse and stands for the dire need to encourage
government officials and the justice system
to pay closer attention to the damages caused
by child abuse and to make stiffer penalties
against perpetrators of child abuse.
The
bipartisan Debbie Smith Act - Lifetime
Television for Women is encouraging everyone
to demand that Congress take action to get
rapists off the streets through better investigation
and prosecution.
Protect
the Children: End the Abuse, Stop the Cover
Up - This petition details the world wide
abuse seen in the Catholic Church, and asks
the UN to take action.
