Grandma
play a song for me, I was no more than ten
The Psalms and hymns would comfort me, her
closeness drew me in
I loved when Grandma came to stay, her hugs
so full of life
She always had time to play and richly blessed
my life
music then would fill the air, we'd sit
so close and sing
she made it all disappear, the hurt, the
pain, the sting
when Grandma came the yelling stopped, the
children now could play
the adults would now act the way that adults
should behave
the sound of music comforts me, an adult
I admit
am softened by the notes and tones a piano
does emit
I sense her sitting close to me when music
fills the air
I miss you Grandma to this day, you chase
away my fears.
