The Face

In a drawer we keep the face
that we must wear most any place.
A face that has a smile so wide
no one could guess just what it hides.
This face brings laughter, never tears,
Behind this face we hide our fears.
Behind this face no one can see,
the pain and anguish that is really "me".
To appear "normal" is what we seek,
so people don't know we're just a freak.
We're damaged goods no one could love,
so we seek answers from the One above.
Can we ever put away this smiley face,
and put the real one in its place?
Can we ever find a love all our own
or are we destined to be alone?
This smiley face we wear so well
is only a small part of our living hell.
